About nook's Protection Plan

Uh. Oopsie. Doh.

Most of us have been there, clawing helplessly as our favorite electronics device plummets towards the floor. Others have never had this experience, don’t fear the butterfingers, or view technology as a temporary thing. If you’re going to be upgrading to a new eReader or tablet in another year, why spend the extra cash on an extended warranty? You wouldn’t or shouldn’t.

Not everyone needs or wants an extended warranty, but if you plan to keep your first-generation nook for several years, an Extended Warranty should be a consideration.

1. You must purchase Barnes and Noble’s Protection Plan at the same time you purchase your nook.

2. Some BN brick-and-mortar store managers have been kind enough to allow purchasers to return a nook, to repurchase it, and to add the extended warranty. If you’ve purchased nook, didn’t buy a Protection Plan at the time of purchase, this is an option if you have a local Barnes and Noble.

3. The Barnes and Noble Protection Plan covers accidental handling, including drops and damage caused by spills, as well as mechanical issues covered by the Standard Warranty. Barnes and Noble will replace your nook once in the case of Accidental Damage.

4. Some nook owners have opted to buy an extended warranty through Square Trade. You must make this purchase within 30 days of acquiring your nook. A two-year plan costs $39.99, while three years of coverage will set you back $53.00. Square Trade’s warranty covers accidental drops and handling, as well as mechanical and electric failures.

5. If you buy a pre-owned nook or decide to sell yours, you can transfer your Protection Plan to the new owner by sending notice via postal mail to Service Net. (See point 12 in the Protection Plan.)
